Pagan Pride Day 2004

The 6th Pagan Pride day has now come and gone. 1325 people came to shop from 55+ vendors, partake in 7 rituals and 11 workshops, enjoy 11 performances, and meet 9 area authors. You donated 910 pounds of food and 305 pounds of clothes for the AIDS Service Center, http://www.aidsservicecenter.org/, the second largest AIDS service provider in Los Angeles county.

See the pictures, re-live the event

Special thanks go to our entertainers, workshops leaders, and authors. Again we had several repeat workshop leaders, but yet again their topics were often new. Returning to lead rituals were Raven's Cry Grove ADF, Randy and Seadna with their distinctive drumming skills, and Raven's Flight/WildeWood Grove, who always produces an energetic ritual as the centerpiece of the event. New to our ritual schedule were Willow Lodge (where I myself first learned about Paganism) with IACRS, Ed Fitch and Lady Trish with their Shakespearean Love Ritual, and Melinda Rodriguez closing up with a Native American ritual.

Pagan Pride LA is still in the black, especially thanks to some heft individual donations that came in this year. But we always need money; we take donations all year (we even have a PayPal link), and we could use ideas for fundraisers. We want to try new things this year and we would love to hear what you think would work, we'd especially like to hear from a few people willing to help plan and execute the fundraisers while we focus on Pagan Pride Day!

In 2004 we also faced many changes. Two of our major sponsors, Raven's Flight and A Krystal Moon, closed their doors. We look forward to continuing our work with Raven, but Keith moved away and now helps the Phoenix PPD. Also, Selene Silverwind announced that she would be stepping down as President of PPLA. Brian Ewing went in the opposite direction: he was promoted to a national office with Pagan Pride International. The March 2005 annual meeting will bring our first officer change, ever. On a more positive note, our IRS "initial determination" period ended and we fully expect to receive a permanent determination of Tax Exempt status early in 2005.

We have a feedback form at http://www.paganpridela.org/what/feedback.html. Feel free to let us know what you think of the event or what you would like to see in the future.

This year's workshops included Jamie Wood "Connecting to the Plant Kin-dom", Robert Mahar "Chaos Magick", Ed Fitch "Elemental & Shamanic", Raven Grimassi "Witchcraft: A Mystery Tradition", Tora Moon "Mudras & Mantas", Donald Michael Kraig "Tantra, Kabalah, and Paganism", Lucy Tate "Sacred Animal Mala Beading for Kids at Heart", Tony Mierzwicki "Introduction to the Magick of Alexandria", Melinda Rodriguez "Power Animals and Shamanic Journeying", and Connie Jones "Orisas: Companions on the Wiccan Path".

Authors included Denise Dumars and Lori Nyx, Jamie Wood, Selene Silverwind, Joni Abbatecola, Sabina Magliocco, Raven Grimassi, Donald Michael Kraig, Ed Fitch, and Poke Runyon. Performers included Saigenus Consciousness, Lisa Thiel, Boots, Joe HUTCHinson, Rebekah Greigh, Jenny Sutherland, Zeora Sage, Echo Greywolf (Navajo Harp Guitar Instrumentalist), Madame Elisandrya De Sade performing "The Mystical Gypsy", Kenny Klein, and League of Vampiric Bards

We're always on the lookout for new performers, authors, workshop leaders, and ritual leaders, so if you're interested in participating, or have contact information for someone you'd like to see at the event, please let us know.

Last, but not least, we are extremely grateful to our volunteers and assistant coordinators. While some positions are filled, we still have several assistant coordinator positions available and we're looking for good people to fill them. We also will experience leadership turnover as Selene Silverwind steps down as President to pursue a Master's Degree at LMU, and Brian Ewing gives up some of his duties to dedicate more time to Pagan Pride International, where he serves as Membership Director, and to study for the California Bar Exam.

See you in 2005!
