Start your own event So your city does not HAVE an event? Maybe you are in Barstow, Flagstaff, Tucson, Salem, Spokane, the Washington Peninsula? Those are just a few of the many places I am trying to recruit. Well, setting one up takes a bit of work, but I haven't heard any Local Coordinator complain about the workload. We are all doing this in our spare time, we find the time somehow, and it is worth it. The rewards are the same: networking, meeting your fellow Pagans in the community, and helping us reach our goals, with the added bonus of knowing you made it happen. We don't do it for the glory, but you might just get some anyway. People have come to me with a broad range of various experiences, and they all catch on. Relevant experience is recommended but not required. Relevant experience includes experience leading rituals, experience talking to the media or speaking in public, and long time experience/study of our craft. A history of activity in your own community helps greatly. Don't let lack of any of these discourage you, however. We have developed tools to help all Coordinators. What is required, however, is that you are already or are willing to be a public Pagan. Once you apply and join our movement as a Coordinator, you are OUT of the closet and possibly on TV. And the longer you are with us, the greater the chance that your local media will come to you to answer their questions. As a local coordinator, you will be responsible for putting on a Pagan Pride event. Duh. But what does that mean? First step is to find a public place to hold the event. Parks get drive by/walk through traffic, which helps expose us to the public, but other venues work almost as well. Then advertise the event, through the internet, print media, local metaphysical stores, word of mouth, and any other channels. Plan a ritual for the event or recruit a coven to do it for you. Also plan a food drive, and/or other charities. And be prepared to talk to the press. The basic requirements of an event are a public ritual, a food drive/charity, and an honest effort to get press (whether they show up is kind of up to them). I can help with all these steps and so can the national website and other Coordinators. Other "not required but nice" elements to add to the event are vendors, entertainers, presentations, organizational networking opportunities, educational materials. A parade would be really cool but we haven't pulled one of those off yet.
